Renewable Energies: NE Energy Potential Creates Opportunities for Technology Companies
With the expansion of renewable energy generation in Brazil, studies point to the Northeast as a strategic location with enormous potential for clean and sustainable energy sources, such as wind and solar. According to data from the Brazilian Wind Energy Association, of the ten states that produce the most wind energy in the country, eight are in the Northeast.
Paraíba currently occupies the ninth position in the ranking, with 15 wind farms installed and a total power of 157.2 MW. This scenario is expected to improve even further in the coming years, with the construction of the wind farm in the municipalities of Junco do Seridó and Santa Luzia. The venture has an investment of approximately R$ 1 billion and the start of operation is scheduled for the beginning of 2023, with an installed capacity of 242 MW, enough to supply a population of 1.5 million people.
In turn, a mapping carried out by state agencies showed seven distinct areas of relevant wind potential throughout Paraíba, with 89% of the estimated state potential found in the Serra and Planalto da Borborema regions. The study identified the areas with the greatest potential for exploration and paved the way for the installation of new parks in the medium and long term.

The moment is, therefore, propitious for investments in the sector. The heating up of the wind and solar energy market generates several opportunities for local technology companies, with the possibility of offering products and services aimed at the prevention and maintenance of parks installed in the region.

Automati, developed by the company Lieno Tecnologia from Paraíba, is one of these software for controlling and monitoring energy networks. It is already used in large shopping centers in João Pessoa and promotes the automation of monitoring the efficiency of energy networks, alerts about imminent problems and predicts the need for future maintenance, helping to reduce costs. It is thus possible to have greater transparency in production, consumption and control of risks.
“We are always following market movements and improving the services offered, which makes the environment conducive to the conception of innovative ideas. We have very high and real expectations in this sector, since we already have projects and services available, such as Automati and experimentation prototypes aimed at predictive maintenance”, explains Bruna Garcia, electrical engineer at Lieno Technology.
According to Bruna, the prospect of new investments in wind energy and other renewable energy sources encourages the expansion of existing companies and the creation of new technology startups in Paraíba. “The scenario for the coming years is very encouraging. We have great energy potential in our state and, consequently, an enormous potential for growth and the emergence of technology companies”, he concludes.
